Chip Moody / Generational Wealth (Chicago)

Generational Wealth and A Collection Thereof (2019) by artist Chip Moody

Often when images of Black people are created they are presented as characters or stereotypes, across the broad social spectrum of morality. Quite the opposite, artist Chip Moody is best known for black-and-white photographs featuring portraits and interior scenes of Black life. He seeks to convey Black humanity, Black autonomy, and Black agency, through images that resonate with a multitude of Black experiences.

Featuring Black love and Black culture on its own terms, Chip admires, values, and interrogates preconceived notions and narratives.

Decentralizing images of Blackness and Black experience is a goal of his work and image-making process.

BIO: Chip Moody completed his BFA at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and was recently an inaugural Arts & Culture Leader of Color Fellow with Americans For the Arts (2019-2020). He has participated in numerous public projects and exhibitions.
